GOP Strategist Rick Wilson Trashes ‘Sh*tty Salesman’ Trump’s Oval Office Speech

President Donald Trump’ address to the nation from the Oval Office on Tuesday night went down with a thud and a whimper as Americans watched a sociopath pretend to have emotions while lying through his teeth. And GOP strategist Rick Wilson roasted him for it.

Trump attempted to use hate and fear to rally support for his wall while portraying migrants as bloodthirsty killers and the children he himself has ordered imprisoned in camps as mere pawns to help those killers enter the country.

Make no mistake, there is a humanitarian crisis at the border, but it was created by Trump, not the migrants themselves, who are simply fleeing violence and chaos in their homeland, chaos our own nation is partly responsible for.

In an epic column written for The Daily Beast the next morning, Rick Wilson savaged Trump’s speech, referring to him as a “sh*tty salesman.”

“On Tuesday night, Trump’s flaming dumpster train of distractions, lies, cons, and empty political promises flew off the rails and plunged into a mountain of burning tires in one of his worst public speeches,” he wrote. “After 17 days of a government shutdown temper tantrum, Trump needed a game-changing home run of a speech to change the political climate in D.C. He failed.

Indeed, Trump appeared uncomfortable as he apparently attempted to garner sympathy for his draconian policies, only to tack on his wall at the very end as an afterthought despite weeks of whining about it and claiming it to be the centerpiece of his immigration policy.

“This speech was supposed to be about forcing the national dialogue to stay on the border wall,” Wilson continued. “No such luck. He reeked of defeat, clearly didn’t want to be there, and it showed. Trump looked exhausted, squinty, and bored, reading in a near-monotone from the Teleprompter. It went over like a wet fart.”

The man who gleefully put kids in cages tried to briefly pretend he gives a damn about migrant children in the least convincing humanitarian performance since the Child Catcher in Chitty Chitty Bang Bang.

The speech can most accurately be seen as the death twitch of The Wall cult. Trump can’t deliver a product, so he’s looking to sell something different.

You could see the disappointment in Trump’s face. He was unhappy with the speech, and evidently cranky to be told he couldn’t have his way. Curses! Cucked by the Establishment, again!

In fact, Democrats actually support much of what Trump talked about, such as more border agents, increased technology like sensors and more medical personnel, all of which is funded in the bills they are proposing. The only thing Democrats disagree with is Trump’s wall proposal. In other words, there’s no reason for the shutdown to continue. Trump can already get just about everything he wants for border security. He’ll just have to give up his wall and sign the bills Democrats are prepared to send to him, the same bills that Republicans in the Senate passed by overwhelming margins before Christmas.

Trump failed to defend his wall, making it look as insignificant in his rhetoric as it would be useless in the real world, all while throwing a tantrum like the spoiled brat from Charlie and the Chocolate Factory.

“President Veruca Salt demanded his Wall and bet his most fundamental campaign promise on it,” Wilson concluded. “He walked himself into a political box canyon of a foolish government shutdown, an untenable demand, and Democrats motivated to hold the line. The speech wasn’t the usual trick escape play for the man accustomed to getting away with damn near everything; it was the exact opposite. The Wall is dead. The shutdown will end. Donald Trump blew it, bigly.”
