Lou Dobbs: More immigration will consign ‘millions of Americans to their deaths’

According to Fox Business host Lou Dobbs, if the United States doesn’t immediately shut off the flow of immigrants into the country, “millions of Americans” will lose their lives.

Yes, he actually said that.

On his show Friday, Dobbs also called on President Donald Trump to fire Kirstjen Nielsen, HuffPost reports:

“At the start of the broadcast, Dobbs directly called on President Donald Trump to fire Department of Homeland Security Secretary Kirstjen Nielsen after she made an ‘urgent request’ to Congress for help in stopping the agency from experiencing a ‘“system-wide meltdown’ at the southern border.

“Dobbs later blasted Nielsen for her ‘ignorance’ and called the leadership of the U.S. Border Patrol ‘absolute morons.'”

Then came the fear-mongering, with Dobbs declaring:

“They are sitting there waiting for orders, waiting for somebody to hand them a solution? If this is what we have come to, if the quality of people in leadership in DHS from the secretary of the department on down I mean lets, you know, just literally put out welcome wagons. Pile them high because we’re just going to consign tens of thousands perhaps millions of Americans to their deaths.”

A day earlier, Dobbs had called on President Trump to close the U.S.-Mexico border. On Friday morning, Trump did exactly that, following the script like a good puppet as he tweeted out:

Earlier this week, Trump also speculated that perhaps instead of a wall, he should station U.S. troops at the southern border with machine guns as a more effective way of stopping all immigration, telling Fox host Sean Hannity:

“BUT WE DON’T DO LIKE OTHER COUNTRIES! OTHER COUNTRIES STAND THERE WITH MACHINE GUNS READY TO FIRE. WE CAN’T DO THAT AND I WOULDN’T WANT TO DO THAT, OKAY? IT’S A VERY EFFECTIVE WAY OF DOING IT AND I WOULDN’T WANT TO DO IT. WE CAN’T DO IT.”

Instead of this constant drumbeat over immigration, maybe the president should pay attention to issues that could indeed wind up killing millions of Americans such as climate change. But that wouldn’t serve Trump’s larger narrative of fear that he plans to use as he begins his re-election campaign. He will run on lies, hatred, and racism. It worked for him in 2016, so he sees no need to change now.
