Abby Huntsman falsely charges that Ocasio-Cortez wants to eradicate the human race

“The View” co-host Abby Huntsman went full conservative whack job on Tuesday as she slandered Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (D-N.Y.) for warning that climate change is causing many Americans to consider not having children.

Ocasio-Cortez made the statement during an Instagram Livestream in defense of the Green New Deal that would transform the United States into a clean energy powerhouse to save the planet and create thousands of new jobs.

“There’s scientific consensus that the lives of children are going to be very difficult,” she said. “And it does lead young people to have a legitimate question: Is it okay to still have children?”

It’s absolutely true. The New York Times reports that worsening climate change is causing many Americans to consider not having kids out of fear that their kids will ultimately live through a time of great suffering.

This uncertain future is supported by science as extinctions become more frequent, fresh water becomes scarcer, and major weather events become more destructive.

Sunny Hostin pointed out that Ocasio-Cortez is not crazy for correctly saying that climate change is causing people to not have kids.

“If you look at the research, the birth rate in the U.S. has been falling for a decade, reaching a new low in 2016, and studies have examined how large a role climate change plays in people’s childbearing decisions and by and large they worry about the quality of life their children born today will have,” she said. “I know that it sounds like, you know, Alexandria is being so crazy and so left and radical, but the studies bear it out what she’s saying.”

Huntsman, who is currently pregnant and never has to worry about the quality of her own children’s lives because she is married to an investment banker and has a net worth of $20 million that will buy her kids a good quality of life even if the rest of the world goes to hell in a handbasket, had the gall to claim Ocasio-Cortez is calling for the end of the human race.

“It does concern me that there’s even a way to defend the question she’s asking,” she said. “There’s a difference in caring about our climate, which I would argue probably everyone in this room cares about the future of their kids and grandkids and the air they breathe, and asking a legitimate question about doing away with the human race. Last I checked, we elect politicians to come up with solutions, not to just do away with everybody. Of all the things she’s said, in my opinion, this is by far the most outrageous. The Democratic Party should make this their platform. They should ask that question. Good luck.”

But that’s not what Ocasio-Cortez said at all. The freshman lawmaker merely pointed out that the seriousness of climate change and the government’s failure to do anything meaningful to reverse or prevent it is causing legitimate fears of bringing children into a world that’s about to suffer major consequences as a result.

She did not say anything about “doing away with the human race,” but climate change will cause mass extinctions and severe droughts on a scale humans have never seen before and it will affect the water supply and the food supply and spark wars for resources as the fossil fuel industry continues to get rich because Republicans like Huntsman refuse to support clean energy initiatives to deal with the global problem. And even if Ocasio-Cortez did say that, it’s a legitimate warning. It doesn’t mean she wants the human race to become extinct. After all, she’s a human, too.

It is outrageous that Republicans would stoop so low to attack Ocasio-Cortez just because she is concerned about climate change and wants to do something about it. Taking action now could spare our children and grandchildren of suffering in a dismal future, and that alone could make Americans hopeful enough to decide having kids is a good idea.

Huntsman owes Ocasio-Cortez an apology and she should be fired from “The View” for twisting her words to slander her.
