Alabama charges woman for losing pregnancy in shooting, but not the person who shot her

An Alabama woman is being charged with manslaughter because someone shot her and she suffered a miscarriage as a result, but did not charge her shooter. Just another insane and outrageous effect of the new anti-abortion law.

27-year-old Marshae Jones had a dispute with 23-year-old Ebony Jemison that ended in Jemison shooting Jones in the stomach. Unfortunately, Jones was five months pregnant at the time and tragically lost the pregnancy.

One would think that her shooter would be the one charged and indicted by prosecutors. After all, a dispute is not a valid reason to shoot someone, and Jemison is the one who pulled the trigger.

But prosecutors didn’t care that Jemison shot Jones, nor did the grand jury. All they cared about is that Jones lost her pregnancy and they blamed her for it. So, the state of Alabama is charging Jones with manslaughter and is letting her shooter walk free as if she had absolutely no involvement in the unwanted termination of Jones’ pregnancy.

Even the Pleasant Grove police didn’t care that they arrested and charged the wrong woman.

“The investigation showed that the only true victim in this was the unborn baby,” Pleasant Grove police Lt. Danny Reid unbelievably stated. “It was the mother of the child who initiated and continued the fight which resulted in the death of her own unborn baby. Let’s not lose sight that the unborn baby is the victim here. She had no choice in being brought unnecessarily into a fight where she was relying on her mother for protection.”

This is complete and utter bullsh*t going down in Alabama right now. Basically, a pregnant woman has no rights in the state. Jones didn’t deserve to be shot over a petty dispute and her shooter should be the one held responsible for the lost pregnancy.

Of course, this is the kind of injustice that will become more common as a result of Alabama’s recent passage of its total ban on abortion.

Any woman who suffers a miscarriage can now be investigated by the state and imprisoned for murder, even if the miscarriage is natural or not the woman’s fault. Jones didn’t pull a gun during the dispute and if law enforcement is going to start punishing women for merely initiating arguments, they just gave every domestic abuser an excuse to shoot a pregnant spouse or partner and get away with it as long as they only kill the fetus. The woman would then be the one getting arrested while her shooter walks free.

This is a slippery slope that proves justice no longer exists in Alabama.
