‘Moral Crisis’ Has More Charities Jumping Ship At Mar-a-Lago

Donald Trump’s “winter White House” is being blackballed.

Mar-a-Lago used to be the place to be for the wealthy of Palm Beach, Florida. Now, it’s a place to be avoided lest you get associated with Trump’s tolerance of Nazis and racism.

The Washington Post reports that in response to Trump blaming “both sides” for violence in Charlottesville this past summer, many charities, including the Red Cross, the Bethesda Hospital Foundation, and Leaders in Furthering Education have all canceled bookings.

Trump’s failure to condemn Nazis and white supremacists drew outrage from the Palm Beach Chamber of Commerce.

Executive director Laurel Baker said:

“Can you honestly say having an event at Mar-a-Lago, given all that has transpired, is the best stewardship of your efforts? The darkest places in hell are reserved for those who maintain their neutrality in times of moral crisis.”

Gala invitations have been getting rejected ever since, and charities have been canceling their bookings as a result. After all, it’s hard to raise money for charity if there are no people at your event to get donations from.

A former Mar-a-Lago member told the Post:

“If it’s at Mar-a-Lago, then we’re not going. It’s not the charity that matters anymore. It’s the venue.”

The loss of the charity events will cost Trump a lot of money, and that makes the cross-town club Breakers very happy because more events are being booked there now. It probably also makes Palm Beach happy since they’ve had to deal with the cost and complications resulting from Trump’s repeated visits over the last year.

Indeed, the number of events canceled at Mar-a-Lago since August has reached nearly 20 and counting, leaving just six events left from the 25 previously scheduled.

To fill the gaps, conservative groups are booking their own events and plan to donate the money to Mar-a-Lago as if it’s a struggling human being. They do know that Trump is a self-proclaimed billionaire, right? It’s not like he NEEDS the cash. He definitely doesn’t need the cash more than the people who rely on these charities. But it appears that conservatives are going to start boycotting any charity that rejects Trump.

So now, Mar-a-Lago will be filled by the likes of the Young Republicans, the Republican Attorneys General Association, and con artist Pat Robertson’s Christian Broadcasting Network.

In other words, even more of a reason for charities, businesses, and individuals to avoid Mar-a-Lago.
