The public face of the NRA in the days since the horrific mass shooting in Parkland, Florida, which left 17 people dead and dozens injured has been spokesperson Dana Loesch, who has shown up on nearly every news network to parrot the gun lobby line that what we need in the United States for just about any problem is more guns.
But while most of us know next to nothing about Loesch, a former colleague of hers when the two worked at far-right website Breitbart is shedding light on who exactly the face and voice of the NRA actually is.
Appearing on AM Joy Sunday morning, Kurt Bardella was asked by host MSNBC host Joy Reid:
“Kurt, what about the demonization, once again by Dana Loesch at CPAC on Thursday saying the media ‘likes and loves’ mass shootings for a very specific reason?”
“I mean, this is a different dimension of idiocy that we’re seeing right now on display from people like Dana. There are no words. This is someone who clearly frankly has no soul, but is a paid mercenary who is happy to keep cashing a check from the NRA to spread ridiculousness.”
But Bardella was far from finished excoriating Loesch, adding:
“To make the insinuation that anybody, anyone on this planet enjoys covering these types of terrible events …. I think the real controversy here is that the events keep happening and the message they’ve come up with is we actually need more guns in schools and this will go away. In fact the kids are coming under fire from the crazy right.
“What disturbs me the most, is when Dana left that conference, she went back to her social circle and she got high-fives from everybody. They’re giving her ‘You did a great job. Way to go.’ Donald Trump probably loved it. He’s probably thinking, ‘I should hire that girl at some some point.’ That’s the biggest toxicity going on, that they’re just talking to one another and fueling this.”
Is Loesch merely engaging in an audition for a job with at the White House? Considering the loose cannons Trump has already had in his administration — Steve Bannon, Sebastian Gorka, Anthony Scaramucci — Loesch seems like a natural for the fact-free presidency we’re currently trying to endure.
