Former Trump staffer predicts: Release of the Donald’s financial records will trigger impeachment

A former member of the Trump transition team said Friday that while Democrats in Congress are debating when they should begin an impeachment inquiry into President Donald Trump, their decision will be made much easier in the weeks ahead as more courts rule that the president’s financial records must be given to congressional committees.

J.W. Verret, a professor at the Antonin Scalia Law School who served as an attorney on the 2016 Trump transition, was asked by MSNBC host Ari Melber on “The Beat” what he expected next regarding impeachment:

“The president clearly has decided that maximum stonewalling and maximum impact is his way forward. Based on your unique knowledge, do you think anything will move or does he look at a week like this politically as exactly what he wanted?”

Verret replied:

“I think the next shoe to drop will be Maxine Waters’ investigation of the Deutsche Bank documents. She’s already won at the district court level.”

And what Verret said next must have sent a shudder of terror across the White House:

“Having been someone who wrote subpoenas for the [Financial Services Committee] — for the Republican chairman who preceded her — I’m pretty clear on the committee’s subpoena power and they’re squarely in their rights to get documents and that will be the next shoe to drop.”

Verret, who served as the chief economist and senior counsel for the House Committee on Financial Services, then predicted those financial records would be what finally convinces House Democrats to begin impeachment:

“Remember one reason [Trump] was danging pardons in front of Michael Cohen was to stop Cohen from revealing previous instances of bank fraud and who knows what else in the president’s dealings with Deutsche Bank. So it is all connected, it’s all interconnected, and it continues the momentum towards impeachment, I think.”

There’s something incredibly damaging (and potentially incriminating) in Trump’s bank and tax records. If there wasn’t, he would have gladly released them a long time ago, if only to get the issue off the table.

Maxine Waters is about to lay a major hurt on Donald Trump.
