Fox host Lou Dobbs declares: Any GOP senators who oppose Trump on tariffs are ‘traitors’ to the U.S.

According to Fox Business host Lou Dobbs, any Republican senators who dare to oppose President Donald Trump and his plan to place tariffs on Mexico are guilty of treason and should be treated as such.

Hours after Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell (R-KY) said there’s “not much support” among members of the GOP for tariffs on Mexico, Dobbs angrily remarked:

“The Republican Party in the Senate appears, to me, to be on the verge of committing absolute suicide.

“The tragedy is they may well take this great Republic down with them.”

If anyone is taking the Republic down, it’s Trump, who is on the verge of sending the U.S. economy into a tailspin that will result in a recession or perhaps even another Great Depression.

Later in the program, Dobbs was back on the topic of Mexican tariffs with Fox News contributor Emily Compagno. And he shifted into overdrive, making it sound like the world would end if Trump doesn’t get his way:

“This is, I think, one of the darkest moments that I have seen in our capital for a long time. This is an abject betrayal on the part of Mitch McConnell.”

The sky is falling, the sky is falling! Lou really needs to chill and understand that there are three separate and co-equal branches of government in this country. That’s the way things are meant to work under our Constitution.

But Dobbs was only getting warmed up, whining:

“They’re telling every American who voted for this president, ‘Go to hell!’

After he showed a video clip of McConnell and other GOP leaders saying tariffs on Mexico would be devastating to the American economy, Dobbs again cranked up his outrage:

“Their families have to understand what traitors they are to their conference, to their party, and to their country. And this president! I think it couldn’t be clearer.”

“This is a crisis of conscience, of soul for the country. And if these, these haggard, tired leaders of the Republican Party on Capitol Hill sell out this president, it’s going to be, it is going to be a terrible day in America.”

Here’s a thought: Lou Dobbs needs to take a few weeks off from his show and learn some lessons in basic economic theory. Better yet, he needs to retire.
