Upon news that former Rep. Mark Sanford (R-S.C.) is considering challenging President Donald Trump, a Fox News shill had the temerity to cry “family values” in an effort to discredit him, only to be smacked down by Kellyanne Conway’s husband George Conway.
Sanford, who lost a primary race in 2018 to challenger Katie Arrington because he criticized Trump, suggested on Tuesday that he might challenge Trump in a primary to be the 2020 Republican nominee.
“Sometimes in life you’ve got to say what you’ve got to say, whether there’s an audience or not for that message,” Sanford said. “I feel convicted.”
In response, Fox News contributor Tammy Bruce, forgetting or conveniently ignoring Trump’s own personal life, attempted to preach “family values” to remind voters who Sanford is.
You mean the then-married guy who as a governor lied about hiking the Appalachian Trail in order to abscond to Argentina w his mistress? That guy? ? “Former SC Rep. Mark Sanford Considers Presidential Run Against Trump” https://t.co/LQD8wOE7il via @NYJooo

Sanford did start an affair with a woman from Argentina and lied about it by claiming he went hiking on the Appalachian Trail. It’s why his stint as governor ended, but South Carolina voters sent him to Congress in a special election in 2013.
The problem with Bruce’s attack is that it’s incredibly hypocritical, especially since Trump’s sins are far worse, as George Conway pointed out in a tweet humiliating Bruce.
I mean the guy who’d be running against the thrice-married accused rapist and serial sexual abuser party buddy of Jeffrey Epstein who paid $130K in hush money to a porn star. https://t.co/udANVIet6x

Conway is spot on. Trump has cheated on all of his wives, including First Lady Melania Trump just after she had given birth to their child. His connections to pedophile child sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein should also be enough to result in Republicans rejecting him. By comparison, Sanford’s behavior is downright angelic.
Sanford, however, is not the only Republican who is considering challenging Trump. Former Massachusetts Governor Bill Weld is already campaigning. Rep. Justin Amash (R-Mich.) is also considering a run and so is former Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.).
Weld and Amash would certainly stand up to the scrutiny of “family values” Republicans like Bruce, but she and other Republicans are nothing but hypocrites who are willing to use the label as a cudgel against challengers all while worshiping at Trump’s feet.
