Major Car Companies Drop NRA Like A Hot Potato

The most recent school shooting in Parkland, Florida is causing some backlash for the gun lobby. Three major car companies just dissolved their corporate relationships with the National Rifle Association.

They aren’t the first organization to tell the NRA to pack sand either:

“For more than a decade, the First National Bank of Omaha has offered special branded Visa cards to National Rifle Association members to support the group. On Thursday, following two days of public pressure, the bank announced it ‘will not renew its contract’ with the NRA.”

The Mayor Pro Tem of Dallas, Dwaine Caraway, has suggested that the NRA would not be welcome in his city. He recommended that they find a different venue for their upcoming annual convention. A suggestion that’s resulted in death threats.

Jumping Ship

The most recent announcement comes from Enterprise Holdings. They operate three major car rental agencies; Enterprise, Alamo, and National. All three had partnership agreements with the NRA to provide discounted car rentals to NRA members. It was one of the many benefits offered for the $40.00 membership fee. Twenty-two corporations offered discounts to NRA members.

On Thursday, all three companies announced they would be severing their discount programs as of March 26.

Other rental agencies including Avis Budget Group and Hertz still offer discounts to NRA members. It is quite possible that the move by Enterprise Holdings is only part of the beginning of the rush to run away from the NRA, as the corporation acted after a wave of public pressure.

NRA Response Is Atrocious

The organization’s callous response to the shooting and death of children appears to have hit a tipping point.

They responded with indignant disbelief that people are no longer buying their lines. A comment to ABC News displayed their total ignorance of the situation after Caraway asked them to move their convention:

No politician anywhere can tell the NRA not to come to their city.

They will continue calling for more guns to solve the problem of too many guns. It is a vicious circle. We can only hope that this time the NRA is circling around the drain.
