Mike Pence Urges CPAC Crowd To ‘Stop’ Democrats That Oppose Trump

Vice President Mike Pence, speaking to the annual Conservative Political Action Conference (CPAC) on Thursday, sounded a strident and sometimes angry tone, suggesting that Democrats who oppose President Trump must be defeated in the midterm elections.

Pence began by warning the crowd that Democrats were motivated as the November Congressional elections approach later this year:

“The other side is motivated. The other side is mobilized. And so today, to the men and women of this conservative movement, I admonish you: Let this be the day that we as a movement decided to deliver another victory for the American people in 2018.”

But it was what Pence said next that reeked of both irony and hypocrisy. Pence said of the Democratic party:

“Their platform can be summed up in only one word: Resist. Resist our policies. Resist our president, and resist the progress the progress that you and I and our entire movement has fought for so hard, so long, to achieve.”

One wonders if Pence has already conveniently forgotten the active and implacable resistance offered by Republicans to everything former President Barack Obama tried to do for eight years.

The VP then told CPAC members:

“It’s up to us to stop them.”

The speech from Pence also touched on his refusal to stand at the Winter Olympics for Kim Jo Yong, sister of North Korean leader Kim Jong-un:

“The United States of America doesn’t stand with murderous dictatorships. We stand up to murderous dictatorships. And we will keep standing strong until North Korea stops threatening our country, our allies or until they abandon their nuclear and ballistic missiles once and for all.”

And yet, Pence’s boss has spoken fondly of Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte, a man who condones the extrajudicial killing of anyone who disagrees with him or might have any connection to illegal drugs.

The winds of change are blowing across the United States, and the blue tsunami of Democrats is poised to restore checks and balances to the federal government. Let’s see what Pence has to say when that happens.
