Televangelist Pat Robertson took to his 700 Club Monday to encourage the faithful to vote out politicians who support the rights of LGBTQ+ people before they “destroy the whole fabric of society,” with “their weird way of doing sex,” writes Friendly Atheist’s Hemant Mehta.

Robertson is apparently out-of-sorts with a story about how a Catholic foster care agency in Philadelphia planned to close its doors rather than comply with the city’s non-discrimination ordinance.

So Robertson, 88, responded with a rambling commentary slamming “the gay agenda.”

“The incredible thing about the homosexuals is they are willing to destroy lives and destroy the whole fabric of society so long as they and their weird way of doing sex is legitimized,” he said on his program. “That’s what they want and they will take away everything; they will destroy marriage, they will destroy families, they will destroy, in this case, the foster children. They are willing to tear down the entire edifice in order to have the majority of people recognize the way they do sex.”

But evidence shows that there have been gay humans since at least the Bronze Age, and people have been getting married since at least 1200-1300 B.C. And humans have been adopting or fostering children for hundreds of years, so if LGBTQ people are trying to destroy families, marriages and foster kids, they are surely being slow.

And rather than destroying families, marriage or foster kids, many LGBTQ+ people are getting married, starting their own families and adopting kids. According to the Tax Policy Center, 250,450 same-sex married couples filed taxes in 2015, up from 183,280 in 2014, NBC News reports.

But facts are lost on Robertson, however. And he wants his fellow Christians to speak out.

“I think if Christians begin to speak out and insist that if some politician goes along with the gay agenda, that they’re going to be out of office,” he said. “Once they get that message, they’ll start saying, ‘We want to listen to the majority of the people in our society.’ Until they do, that small minority is going to be dominating everything we do and every aspect of our lives.”

And Robertson says all of this with a straight face. At a time when the Catholic Church has been hit worldwide with enough child sexual abuse allegations to bury the grand canyon.

Despite this, Robertson is weirdly obsessed with gay sex, Mehta notes.

“Robertson refuses to accept that because he’s too hung up on which positions they use in the bedroom. As the critics often say, no one thinks about gay sex more than conservative Christians. Maybe if Robertson stopped thinking about what parts go in what holes, he’d find time to advocate for children who need parents instead of his fellow Christian bigots.”

Robertson has a weird way of doing religion. You can see what he’s all about in the video below.
