Did you know that Paul Ryan represents an area of the country that remains largely working class?
Most Americans would guess otherwise based upon Ryan’s recent pushes to repeal the Affordable Care Act and give huge tax cuts to corporations and the rich.
Americans everywhere are beginning to resist the Republican agenda. And it’s looking like Ryan is in for some trouble in the 2018 elections.
According to Shareblue Media, a new poll shows that a largely unknown progressive challenger running on the Democratic ticket is quickly closing in on Ryan’s reign. The challenger, Randy Bryce, is already polling within 6 points of Ryan despite the fact that 79 percent of likely voters said they don’t know enough about Bryce to have an opinion on his candidacy.
Bryce entered the race with a video that went viral in June. Watch it below. He’s an ironworker, a military veteran, a union member, father, and a cancer survivor. He knows what it’s like to work paycheck to paycheck and not know whether his family will be able to afford to pay the bills.
Bryce understands the frustration held by the working people of Wisconsin, where the state minimum wage is still $7.25 an hour, and residents can work 40 hours a week and still live below the poverty line. Meanwhile, Paul Ryan answers to rich donors and knowingly promotes an agenda that aims to attack America’s poor. It’s no surprise that Bryce would soar in the polls.
Ryan has represented Wisconsin’s 1st congressional district since 1999. A challenger has never been able to take him down. This time around, frustration has been bubbling up from his constituency. During a town hall meeting in August where attendees were hand-picked by Republican leadership, Ryan was called out for his inability to get anything done.
Since then, his favorability rating has dropped significantly. Ryan’s scheme with fellow House Republicans to lower taxes on the rich has also worked against his reputation, and voters are waking up.
Bryce has stepped in to fill the vacuum with a message of solidarity and hope.
It’s important that Bryce gains as much attention for his efforts as possible. He’s ready to fight for a country that answers to the people. If Wisconsin’s voters have their fair say, our country’s progressive surge will kick Ryan and his cronies right out of Washington.
