Ted Cruz makes unbelievably insensitive joke about Notre Dame rebuild and gets crushed for it

The world is still in shock after a fire ravaged Notre Dame Cathedral on Monday, yet Senator Ted Cruz (R-Texas) decided to make an insensitive joke about it after Disney pledged a donation to help rebuild it.

Flames toppled the iconic spire of the medieval structure and destroyed the roof, causing a loss of history and art that can never be truly replaced. But the structure itself survived the blaze, and France has already vowed to restore it to its former glory.

Hundreds of millions of dollars have been donated toward the restoration effort so far even though the Catholic Church is wealthy and three recently burned down black churches in Louisiana could use the donations more.

As the maker of the animated film “The Hunchback of Notre Dame,” Disney gladly pledged $5 million to restore the cathedral.

“Notre-Dame is a beacon of hope and beauty that has defined the heart of Paris and the soul of France for centuries, inspiring awe and reverence for its art and architecture and for its enduring place in human history,” Walt Disney Company CEO Bob Iger said. “The Walt Disney Company stands with our friends and neighbors in the community, offering our heartfelt support as well as a $5 million donation for the restoration of this irreplaceable masterpiece.”

It’s a touching gesture and one the people of France likely appreciate. Cruz, on the other hand, not so much.

He seems to think Disney will demand the princesses from its animated features be adorned on any new stained glass even though all of the stained glass survived.

Once again, Cruz demonstrates that he sucks at comedy and that he is incapable of saying something that isn’t insensitive at the wrong time.

And he received instant backlash from Twitter users.

The only thing Cruz did with this tweet is make a complete a** of himself.
