While President Donald Trump steadfastly maintains that he won’t sign any bill to end the government shutdown unless is contains at least $5 billion for his wall on the Southern border, we now know the real reason Trump is refusing to budge on the matter, and it’s the sort of thing you’d expect from a man who constantly acts like a spoiled child.
During a meeting this afternoon in the Situation Room of the White House, Trump exactly why he’s being so obstinate: Because he’ll look foolish.
Julie Davis of The New York Times tweeted out:
At WH, Schumer said publicly that he asked Trump point-blank in the Sit Rm today for 1 good reason not to accept bill reopening all gov agencies other than DHS. Source familiar says POTUS responded: “I would look foolish if I did that.”

As if Trump could possibly more foolish than he does every single time he opens his mouth or grabs his cell phone and starts tweeting.
Keep in mind that Trump has been asked repeatedly why he won’t end the shutdown or at least be willing to compromise. Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer said he asked and failed to get a direct answer from the president:
“I asked him directly. I said, ‘Mr. President, give me one good reason why you should continue your shutdown of the eight cabinet departments while we are debating our differences on homeland security?’ He could not give a good answer.”
Probably because he knew if he did, he’d be laughed at. And he should be!
Some have suggested that Trump is trying to play to his base, the supporters who actually believed him when he said he’d build a wall and make Mexico pay for it. But that’s too politically sophisticated and rational for a man-baby like the one currently residing in the White House.
Trump’s afraid he’ll look foolish? That ship sailed a long time ago.
