President Donald Trump definitely picked the wrong city to bully, because Baltimore is the hometown of “The Wire” creator David Simon, and he did not let Trump get away with insulting the city.
In yet another racist attack against Rep. Elijah Cummings (D-Md.) that he continued on Sunday morning, Trump insulted Baltimore by calling it “rat infested,” which didn’t go well for him at all since MSNBC host Joy Reid reminded everyone that Trump’s Mar-a-Lago resort has been accused by health inspectors of having real infestation problems.
The Baltimore Sun also responded by destroying Trump, but journalist and creator of the acclaimed long-running television series “The Wire” piled on by taking him to the woodshed.
If this empty-suit, race-hating fraud had to actually visit West Baltimore for five minutes and meet any of the American citizens who endure there, he’d wet himself. https://t.co/QBSed1S4c8

Simon then ripped a racist Trump supporter and informed him that unlike Trump, he walked the streets of the city and covered the struggles of black people while white racists stayed silent.
The president is “literally” a simplistic, racist moron. I am “literally” the guy writing stuff about the last century of U.S. policy, about the drug war and mass incarceration, about Brown v. and white flight, about all of modern U.S. history to which your kind stays mute. https://t.co/bZbd9ie6BK

He also pointed out that he created “The Wire” colorblind.
Or a reporter who covered actual Baltimore, was simply indifferent to race, and wrote Irish cops as drunks, Polish stevedores as corruptible, Jewish drug lawyers as corrupt, and the grifting state senator from an all-black district as being, um, black. You submoronic wonder. https://t.co/M60haeploH

Simon then came down hard on Maryland Governor Larry Hogan (R) for responding with the equivalent of Trump’s “both sides” remark about the neo-Nazis who perpetrated violence on peaceful protesters in Charlottesville, Virginia two years ago.
Here’s an attack between a Baltimorean and a politician: @GovLarryHogan, only one politician attacked another: President Trump attacked Rep. Cummings and his district because he is black, and Trump is accustomed to targeting black officials. Now, you’ve two-sided it gutlessly. https://t.co/ENo7PwO0Im

Trump is a racist, and Hogan should have called him out for it instead of trying to blame both Trump and Cummings. Trump is the one who attacked Cummings for doing his job in Congress. And Trump is the one who insulted Baltimore. And Trump is the one who is spewing racism. It’s a good thing people like David Simon are willing to stand up to Trump, because it’s clear that even moderate Republicans like Hogan don’t have a spine either.
