Trump aide lashes out at NYT for publishing story exposing Huckabee Sanders’ reputation as a liar

Huckabee Sanders

White House press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders remains unapologetic for being President Donald Trump’s top liar, and the New York Times took her to task for it this week.

Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s final report dropped a lot of bombshells on Thursday, and Huckabee Sanders and her already tattered reputation took a direct hit when the report detailed how Trump’s official mouthpiece lied to the American people when she claimed that FBI officials were happy about Trump’s decision to fire former FBI Director James Comey.

Trump’s firing of Comey is prominently listed in Mueller’s report as one of ten instances Trump committed obstruction of justice to undermine the Russia probe.

Rather than take responsibility and apologize, Huckabee Sanders remained unrepentant.

“I’m sorry that I wasn’t a robot like the Democrat Party that went out for two and a half years and repeated time and time again that there was definitely Russian collusion between the president and his campaign,” she said earlier this week.

On Friday, the New York Times published a story calling her out for refusing to admit she lied.

It has been a hallmark of the Trump White House never to admit a mistake, never to apologize and never to cede a point. This case was no different.

Ms. Sanders, who has often taken news media outlets to task for what they write and report and has accused them of spreading “fake news” about Mr. Trump, was just a footnote in Mr. Mueller’s 448-page report. But because of her public role, the anecdote involving her false statement loomed large in the broader portrait by the special counsel of a White House defined by a culture of dishonesty.

Unlike previous administrations, in which officials feared blows to their credibility in public, Mr. Trump’s press aides are generally performing for an audience of one — the president.

That includes Trump aide Hogan Gidley, who attacked the New York Times soon after publication.

“The White House staff will never be lectured on truth-telling from the media that pushed a flat-out lie about Donald Trump for two years,” he said.

As usual, even when they are caught lying, Trump and his team stubbornly refuse to admit they did anything wrong, and that alone craters their credibility and proves they have zero sense of morality. That is, if they ever had either to begin with.
