Trump Claims Most Federal Workers Hurt By Government Shutdown Are Democrats

President Donald Trump returned from Iraq on Thursday and immediately took to Twitter to claim without offering any proof whatsoever that most federal workers harmed by the government shutdown are Democrats.

Ever since he shut the government down last Friday, Trump has been desperately blaming the Democrats for it and has resorted to making multiple false claims to make it sound like he has the support of the country.

That didn’t change when Trump arrived back at the White House Thursday morning when he once again whined about his border wall funding.

The problem is that Trump just contradicted statements he made earlier about the government shutdown.

Earlier this week, Trump literally claimed that most federal workers support the wall and want him to keep the shutdown going until he gets what he wants.

“Many of those workers have said to me and communicated, ‘stay out until you get the funding for the wall,’” Trump said. “These federal workers want the wall. The only one that doesn’t want the wall are the Democrats.”

So, if the only people who don’t want the wall are Democrats, that means these federal workers are not Democrats, but Republicans, right? At least that’s according to Trump’s own logic.

But now he says that most federal workers are Democrats. Clearly, Trump is lying in at least one or even both statements.

Furthermore, Trump can try to blame Democrats all he wants, he is still on video taking complete ownership of the government shutdown during an Oval Office meeting over two weeks ago.

“I am proud to shut down the government for border security,” he told Senator Chuck Schumer (D-N.Y.). “I will take the mantle. I will be the one to shut it down. I’m not going to blame you for it.”

Here’s the video via YouTube.

The fact is that billions of dollars have been lost because of Trump’s shutdown and a majority of Americans not only oppose Trump’s wall, they oppose the shutdown and blame him for it.

It’s pretty clear that Trump lost this shutdown fight long before it ever began. He had a chance to sign a bill unanimously passed by the Senate to fund the government through early February and he rejected it. And that’s only months after he rejected $25 billion in funding Democrats offered him in exchange for reinstating DACA because Trump refuses to compromise.

Blaming Democrats for this shutdown despite having control of the Senate, House, and White House is an exercise in futility. Trump knows it, but he doesn’t care as long as his Fox News cheerleaders are happy.

And Americans will be sure to remember in November 2020.
