Trump claims San Antonio has a wall — except it doesn’t

President Donald Trump absurdly claimed that San Antonio, Texas has a border wall in yet another desperate effort to justify building a wall along all 1,954 miles of the southern border. The only problem is that the city does not have a wall at all.

While speaking to reporters on the White House lawn on Saturday, Trump defended his wall by claiming that they make cities safer, and used San Antonio as an example.

“Everybody knows that walls work,” Trump said. “You look at different places they put up a wall, no problem. You look at San Antonio, you look at so many different places. They go from one of the most unsafe cities in the country to one of the safest cities, immediately.”

The problem is that San Antonio is 150 miles away from the border and it does not have a wall:

Plus, Rep. Will Hurd (R-Texas), who represents San Antonio within his district, has repeatedly rejected Trump’s wall as “the most expensive and least effective way to do border security.”

Trump has previously used other examples of walls to justify his wall funding, claiming that walls around the world are “100 percent effective.”

But that’s not true as most walls have only caused more geopolitical problems than they solve and have actually failed for centuries. Even the Great Wall of China and the Berlin Wall failed to keep people from crossing borders.

Furthermore, the effectiveness of a wall has already been demolished by a wall expert and engineer who pointed out the flaws of such a project piece by piece.

Trump’s wall would not only cost more to fund than he claims, it would be a logistical nightmare to build that would cause more severe flooding and would only take a ladder and saddle for the top to scale over it.

It just won’t be effective, just like walls don’t stop drugs and illegal immigration now.

If Trump is going to lie, he should at least pick a city that’s actually on the border to make his claims sound more legit. But all he’s doing is embarrassing himself and undermining his own cause, just as he did on Saturday morning when he basically conceded his wall is unnecessary because the “caravans” he keeps fear mongering about have been stopped every time.

If Border Patrol is doing a good job, there’s no need for Trump’s wall.
