Trump Intends To Reverse America’s National Security Policy

Despite dire reports showing that climate is the top threat our nation and military faces right now, President Donald Trump is pretending otherwise.

In an unprecedented speech planned on Monday, Trump will roll out his “America First” National Security Strategy.

But unlike the strategy adopted by former President Barack Obama, Trump will be ignoring climate change completely while focusing more on the economy and marching America toward war with North Korea while also making ridiculous claims about Russia and China.

The Guardian reports that a draft of the speech says:

“US leadership is indispensable to countering an anti-growth energy agenda that is detrimental to US economic and energy security interests. Given future global energy demand, much of the developing world will require fossil fuels, as well as other forms of energy, to power their economies and lift their people out of poverty.”

In other words, Trump is doubling down on increasing production of oil, gas, and coal, all of which have significantly contributed to climate change that is resulting in bigger hurricanes, more devastating wildfires and warmer and drier climates.

And it flies in the face of remarks made by Department of Defense Secretary James Mattis, who warned Congress in January that:

“…Climate change is impacting stability in areas of the world where our troops are operating today.”

National Security Strategies are usually not revealed to the public in a speech, but Trump is going to do it anyway and announce to the nation and the world that America denies science and doesn’t give a damn about the planet.

Climate change is having a massive affect on our country right now, and Trump is ignoring that, which makes him an irresponsible leader at a time when we need responsible leadership the most.

Also, Trump will be attacking Russia and China. The draft reportedly also says:

“They are determined to make economies less free and less fair, to grow their militaries, and to control information and data to repress their societies and expand their influence.”

And that’s particularly hypocritical since Trump has been growing our own military, especially our nuclear stockpile, and his FCC recently killed net neutrality, which will allow Internet service providers to repress our own society and control data and information.

Trump’s speech also apparently puts us on the path to war with North Korea.

“As missiles grow in numbers, types, and effectiveness, to include those with greater ranges, they are the most likely means for states like North Korea to use a nuclear weapon against the United States. North Korea is also pursuing chemical and biological weapons which could also be delivered by missile.”

Americans should be seriously frightened right now. Not by North Korea, Russia, or China. But by Trump’s ignorance and his eagerness to start a war abroad rather than focus on threats closer to home such as climate change that is destroying billions of dollars worth of property and killing Americans every day.

We need to take climate change seriously before it is too late, but all Trump wants to do is make it worse by enabling polluters to continue destroying the environment at will for profit. All while, he provokes North Korea and dismantles the State Department in a clear rejection of diplomacy in favor of military action that will cost lives and money.

Trump is nothing more than a madman who is eager to brag about his own madness. And it will be the American people who suffer the most because of it.
