Trump gets shredded for telling 9/11 first responders he was ‘down there’ at Ground Zero after the attack

During a signing ceremony for the 9/11 victim compensation fund bill on Monday morning, President Donald Trump once again repeated the lie that he had been “down there” at Ground Zero after the World Trade Towers were attacked with two planes hijacked by terrorists affiliated with Al Qaeda.

AlterNet reports that Trump told first responders who were in the Rose Garden for the ceremony:

“Many of those affected were fire fighters, police officers, and other first responders. And I was down there also, but I’m not considering myself a first responder, but I was down there, I spent a lot of time down there with you.”

This isn’t the first time Trump has told this lie, according to Mediaite:

At a 2016 rally in Buffalo, NY, Trump said this:

“Everyone who helped clear the rubble — and I was there, and I watched, and I helped a little bit — but I want to tell you: Those people were amazing. Clearing the rubble. Trying to find additional lives. You didn’t know what was going to come down on all of us — and they handled it.”

The fact-checking website Snopes.com deemed Trump’s claim to be “unproven.”

Twitter users were quick to let Trump know that he, unlike the first responders, isn’t a hero, just a liar and a braggart:
