Trump ignorantly tells reporters the courts won’t let him be impeached

President Donald Trump continued to demonstrate that he has no clue what the Constitution says or how it works on Thursday while speaking to reporters about executive powers and impeachment.

Just a day after Special Counsel Robert Mueller confirmed his conclusions in his final report are much different than how Trump and Attorney General Bill Barr portrayed them, Trump spoke to reporters outside the White House as calls for his impeachment increase.

Trump claimed that Mueller pronounced him innocent “the first time” and said he did not commit any crimes even though many instances of obstruction of justice were listed in the report.

Trump then bizarrely claimed that Article II of the Constitution that outlines executive power gives him the power to do basically whatever he wants.

“Someday you ought to read a thing called Article II,” Trump said. “Read Article II, which gives the president powers that you wouldn’t believe. But I don’t even have to rely on Article 2. There was no crime.”

First of all, the Constitution does not give the president unlimited powers and certainly does not give the president the power to obstruct justice, especially since obstruction is a high crime and the Constitution gives Congress the power to impeach the president for committing high crimes.

Seriously, Trump should read Article I and Section IV of Article II.

He should also read Article III because it does not give the courts the power to stop impeachment of the president, but that’s apparently what Trump thinks.

“I can’t imagine the courts allowing it,” Trump said of impeachment. “I never thought it would be possible to be using that word.”

The Supreme Court, nor any other court can prevent Trump from being impeached. Chief Justice John Roberts would get to preside over an impeachment trial in the Senate, but the Senators would be the jury that votes to convict or acquit.

Clearly, Trump believes that by stacking the courts with conservative cronies, he can somehow block impeachment. But that’s not how the Constitution works and Trump is woefully ignorant about our laws and system of government. That alone makes him unfit for office. Combined with his flouting of congressional oversight and obstruction of justice, impeachment should be started immediately.
