As if President Donald Trump couldn’t look any more like a wannabe dictator. Speaking at a recent luncheon with wealthy donors, Trump’s words seemed to prove just how much he wishes he were that dictator and it seemed like he wanted to make doubly sure everyone knows it.
PRESIDENT FOR LIFE
Chinese President Xi Jinping recently consolidated power in China.
Trump decided that it’s great that China now has a president for life, and he thinks the U.S. should do the same thing. He waxed poetic in front of wealthy Republican donors at his Mar-A-Lago estate in South Florida about how Xi managed to grab the office for life. He thinks it’s so fantastic that maybe the U.S. should give it a shot. Trump said:
“He’s now president for life. President for life. And he’s great. I think it’s great. Maybe we’ll give that a shot someday.”
His remarks were met with great laughter and applause. It appears that by now, Republicans are so far gone that Trump could have told them the world was ending tomorrow and they would think it’s awesome.
TRUMP ADMIRES DICTATORS
It’s relatively well-documented that Trump is a huge fan of dictators. He expressed his “great respect” for Xi while bragging about his “very good relationship” with the Chinese dictator.
On top of his relationship with Xi, Trump often talks about his admiration of other dictators.
He repeatedly praises Russian President Vladimir Putin, for example. Trump is a great fan of Putin’s approval numbers as well as saying that he gets an “A” in leadership.
Trump also constantly brags about his relationship with Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan. Erdogan is a dictator most well known for jailing reporters, academics, police officers, and generally anyone who even thinks about dissenting in any way.
It is, perhaps, the most disturbing how Trump feels about Philippine President Rodrigo Duterte. Trump said Duterte was doing:
“…An unbelievable job on the drug problem.”
This statement came after Duterte killed off thousands of people in his own country’s war on drugs. Trump reportedly wants drug dealers in the United States to face the same punishment for their crimes – death.
And this is the guy that wants to be your president for life.
