Trump stabs Pence in the back by implicating him in his impeachment scandal

Vice-President Mike Pence is learning the hard way that President Donald Trump will betray anyone if it means taking the pressure off of himself, because Trump appeared to incriminate him in his impeachment scandal on Wednesday.

Trump’s scheme to extort Ukraine into digging up dirt on former Vice-President Joe Biden in exchange for military aid has triggered an impeachment inquiry against him which now has the 218 votes required to pass articles of impeachment in the House.

Six House committees now have impeachment powers that allow them greater access to documents and testimony to make their case, or in this instance, multiple cases against Trump.

Of course, Trump has been whining about the impeachment inquiry since House Speaker Nancy Pelosi (D-Calif.) announced it. But now Trump is apparently trying to new tactic, wherein if he goes down, Pence goes down with him.

During a press conference at the United Nations, Trump once again complained about Democrats ruining his achievements (which are non-existent), but while speaking about his phone call transcript between himself and Ukrainian President Zelensky, which is the intense subject of a whistleblower complaint, Trump suggested Democrats and the media look at Pence’s conversations with Zelensky as well.

“And the Democrats did this hoax during the United Nations week,” Trump whined. “It was perfect, because this way it takes away from the tremendous achievements that we’re taking care of doing, that we’re involved in, in New York City at the United Nations. So that was all planned, like everything else. It was all planned. And the witch hunt continues, but they’re getting hit hard on this witch hunt, because when they look at the information, it’s a joke. Impeachment for that? When you have a wonderful meeting or you have a wonderful phone conversation? And I think you should ask for VP Pence’s conversation, because he had a couple of conversations also. But the word is that they’re going to ask for the first phone conversation. You can have it any time you need it. And also Mike Pence’s conversations, which were I think one or two of them.”

We already know that Pence may be complicit with Trump’s scheme based on what Pence told reporters in Poland earlier this month when asked if he spoke to Zelensky about Biden.

“With President Zelensky yesterday, we discussed — we discussed America’s support for Ukraine and the upcoming decision the President will make on the latest tranche of financial support in great detail,” Pence said. “As President Trump had me make clear, we have great concerns about issues of corruption. I called on him to work with us to engage our European partners to participate at a greater level in Ukraine, and also told him that I would carry back to President Trump the progress that he and his administration in Ukraine are making on dealing with corruption in their country.”

So, Pence participated in Trump’s scheme to withhold military aid from Ukraine to pressure them into opening an investigation, although Pence is careful to deny he directly mentioned Biden. But it’s important to note that Pence is basically saying that he is watching Ukraine closely to see if they comply with Trump’s demands and that he will report back on their progress like a middle-man.

Pence served in Congress. He knows full well that holding military aid Congress approved for a foreign nation hostage to extract political favors is illegal. Even if he didn’t say Biden’s name at all, he is still complicit.

Trump just threw Pence under the bus by informing Democrats that they might want to look at Pence’s conversations. This is what happens when you are loyal to Trump. No matter how loyal you are, he will stab you in the back to save himself or distract from his own corrupt activities.
