Trump would lose to Biden, Sanders and Warren says new poll

Biden

A devastating new poll reveals that President Donald Trump is trailing former Vice-President Joe Biden, Senator Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) and Senator Bernie Sanders in the presidential race. If the election were held today, Trump would lose to all three Democrats.

Trump thinks winning re-election in November 2020 will be a breeze, but the latest NBC News/Wall Street Journal poll shows that Republicans should be freaking out.

According to NBC News:

Former Vice President Joe Biden leads the president by 9 points among registered voters, 51 percent to 42 percent — outside of the poll’s margin of error of plus-minus 3.5 percentage points.

Sen. Bernie Sanders, I-Vt., is ahead of Trump by 7 points, 50 percent to 43 percent.

Sen. Elizabeth Warren, D-Mass., holds a 5-point advantage, 48 percent to 43 percent.

All of these leads are outside the margin of error. And Senator Kamala Harris (D-Calif.) also leads Trump, albeit by one point.

It’s Biden, however, who is posing the biggest threat to Trump as he leads among black voters, suburban voters, women, and independents while the other candidates are running even with Trump or are running behind, particularly among suburban voters and independents.

NBC pointed out that Trump is faring worse than former President Obama in a similar poll at the same point prior to the 2012 Election when he only had a one-point lead against Mitt Romney, yet went on to win the election by four points. Trump is behind Biden by nine points.

This poll does not reflect Trump’s recent racist outburst that has drawn national outrage, so his numbers could actually get much worse from here.

It also follows Trump’s own internal polls showing that he’s losing to Biden in every swing state.

Biden is not the perfect candidate, but he may be the perfect candidate in this particular moment when the goal for Democrats should be to beat Trump at all costs, even if it means electing a Democrat whose progressive credentials are scant. Democrats need to think of the big picture here. Because losing to Trump a second time could be the moment our democracy and Constitution falls and there may be no more elections after 2020. This is an “all hands on deck” emergency moment, and Biden is most certainly a better option than Trump.
