Trump’s FBI Director Sides With James Comey During Hearing

President Donald Trump’s own FBI Director just disagreed with his attack on the agency.

After throwing a temper tantrum about Michael Flynn’s plea deal, Trump attacked the FBI on Twitter after a report emerged that Robert Mueller removed an agent from the investigation when he was discovered sending anti-Trump text messages.

Trump accused the FBI of rigging the system against him and claimed the report as proof that the FBI was in Hillary Clinton’s pocket.

Trump’s hissy fit drew a sharp response from Comey, whom Trump fired earlier this year because he refused to drop the investigation against Flynn.

On Thursday, FBI Director Christopher Wray was asked if he agrees with Trump’s words during a House Judiciary Committee hearing.

“After the president said, which I disagree with, that the FBI was in tatters, director Comey tweeted, ‘I want the American people to know this truth: The FBI is honest. The FBI is strong. And the FBI is, and always will be, independent,’ Democratic Rep. Steve Cohen began. ‘Did you welcome his tweet and do you agree with it?'”

Trump is going to be angry because Wray sided with Comey. He said:

“Well, I believe that description of the FBI aligns with my own description.”

After being asked about Comey’s reputation with the FBI, Wray had nothing but good things to say:

“My experience working with James Comey…was that he was a smart lawyer, a dedicated public servant, and somebody that I enjoyed working with.”

Wray also addressed the reputation of Robert Mueller, calling him “well-respected within the FBI.”

So the current FBI Director, who was appointed by Trump, agrees with James Comey’s assessment of the FBI and refused to trash him or Mueller like Trump probably had hoped he would do.

That’s got to sting, and it totally undermines Trump’s effort to taint the FBI and the investigation against him.
