DOJ Begins Planned Parenthood Witch Hunt Over Debunked Conspiracy Theories

A thorough investigation cleared Planned Parenthood of any wrongdoing, but conservatives have begun a new witch hunt anyway.

With Jeff Sessions in charge of the Department of Justice, you just knew that he would sign-off on wasteful persecutions to appease the rabid conservatives who make up President Donald Trump’s voter base.

Two years ago, right-wing anti-abortion group Center for Medical Progress, led by David Daleiden, infiltrated Planned Parenthood in an effort to catch them “breaking the law.”

The 2014 videos appeared to record Planned Parenthood employees discussing prices of fetal tissue. The undercover anti-abortion activists posed as employees of a bio research company seeking to obtain tissue for medical research.

Of course, Planned Parenthood does not profit from such “sales.” They merely get reimbursed the costs of transporting the tissues, information the videos conveniently fail to include. Furthermore, the videos were heavily edited to make Planned Parenthood look as bad as possible.

Investigations proved that Planned Parenthood did nothing illegal and prosecutors slapped Daleiden with 15 felony charges under California law for illegally recording Planned Parenthood employees without their consent or knowledge.

But now Sessions is using the Department of Justice to reopen the investigation, which will likely be nothing more than a witch hunt.

Justice Department Assistant Attorney General for Legislative Affairs Stephen Boyd confirmed the investigation in a letter he sent asking for unredacted materials from Chuck Grassley’s biased Senate investigation.

Boyd said:

“The Department of Justice appreciates the offer of assistance in obtaining these materials, and would like to request the Committee provide unredacted copies of records contained in the report, in order to further the Department’s ability to conduct a thorough and comprehensive assessment of that report based on the full range of information available. At this point, the records are intended for investigative use only—we understand that a resolution from the Senate may be required if the Department were to use any of the unredacted materials in a formal legal proceeding, such as a grand jury.”

Here’s a Fox News report via Twitter.

Speaking of grand juries, a Texas grand jury found that Planned Parenthood did nothing illegal, and that’s from a state that is more anti-abortion than most.

As Fox News even noted, despite burying the information deep in their story, “Three other Congressional committees, and investigations in 13 states” also found that Planned Parenthood did nothing wrong.

So this witch hunt is all based on the single investigation Grassley led in the Senate.

Center for Medical Progress leader David Daleiden praised the investigation and had the nerve to call his operatives “journalists.”

“Over two years ago, citizen journalists at The Center for Medical Progress first caught Planned Parenthood’s top abortion doctors in a series of undercover videos callously and flippantly negotiating the sale of tiny baby hearts, lungs, livers, and brains. It is time for public officials to finally hold Planned Parenthood and their criminal abortion enterprise accountable under the law.”

This is a shameful and wasteful use of federal resources. Planned Parenthood did nothing wrong, but Trump and his goons are clearly desperate to shut it down. And that’s going to hurt women across the country who rely on the clinics for care.
