President Donald Trump thought he’d weigh in the Russia investigation Monday morning, suggesting on Twitter that his former attorney and fixer, Michael Cohen, should have to serve the maximum sentence allowable for lying to Congress rather than being shown leniency because he reached a plea bargain last week and agreed to fully cooperate with Special Counsel Robert Mueller:
“Michael Cohen asks judge for no Prison Time.” You mean he can do all of the TERRIBLE, unrelated to Trump, things having to do with fraud, big loans, Taxis, etc., and not serve a long prison term? He makes up stories to get a GREAT & ALREADY reduced deal for himself, and get…..

….his wife and father-in-law (who has the money?) off Scott Free. He lied for this outcome and should, in my opinion, serve a full and complete sentence.

First things first, Donnie: The correct spelling is “scot-free,” not Scott Free, who may well be some guy in Scotland who just so happens to have been given that name by his parents.
Also, it’s common in plea deals that the person agreeing to cooperate with prosecutors is given a greatly reduced sentence in exchange for being willing to testify against others. This is the same legal strategy used to take down mafia figures over the decades. It’s not the least bit unusual other than the fact that Cohen has agreed to tell what he knows about Trump and his family of grifters.
It didn’t take long for Twitter to clap back at the president, and some of the comments were absolutely on point:
Trump, who was named as “Individual 1,” falsely claims that Cohen’s plea was “unrelated to Trump.”
Can you specify what stories Cohen made up @realDonaldTrump?
Unlike your tweets, his pleas are backed by evidence.

Actually, the Russians (aka your handlers) confirmed his story. And Rudy says your written answers to Mueller are consistent with what Cohen had say. You’re the one who’s been found to have been making up stories.

Who is Scott Free and why is @MichaelCohen212 trying to get him off? pic.twitter.com/KoGvm8T264

Sir, if I might remind you. It’s not “Scott Free.” The term “scot-free” originally meant getting away with not paying taxes. Given that you may owe $400 million in back taxes to New York state, perhaps now is not the time to throw stones at Cohen. https://t.co/7dQktJJYVm pic.twitter.com/J2yG1KbFsJ

With every tweet, this guy digs the hole he’s in even deeper. Keep tweeting, Donald; Mueller is still compiling the evidence against you.
