Now that the Trump administration is again trying to destroy the Affordable Care Act (aka Obamacare) by supporting a federal lawsuit that would invalidate the law, Republican members of Congress are facing questions about why they failed to repeal and replace the ACA in 2017 when they had control of the the House in Senate.
Rep. Roger Marshall (R-KS) appeared on CNN Thursday morning to discuss the issue, and he tried to blame his party’s lack of legislative action on the Russia probe conducted by Special Counsel Robert Mueller, telling host Alisyn Camerota:
“It’s very frustrating that we have frozen America over a false narrative for two years, when we could have solved health care, built a wall. There are so many things we could have done!”
But Camerota wasn’t about to let Marshall shift the blame to Mueller, telling him:
“Hold on a second. You think that, because of the Mueller report, that’s why the wall hasn’t been built, that’s why health care hasn’t been solved?”
Marshall responded:
“I think it is a great deal of it! This single issue takes up all the oxygen in D.C.! I have never been to a place that couldn’t do two or three things at one time!”
Oh come on! Now the GOP is going to blame Robert Mueller for their own incompetence and inability to legislate?! They had control of both the Congress and White House and the only legislation they managed to pass was tax cuts for the richest Americans. And they only did that because their richest campaign donors threatened to withhold their contributions if they failed.
The simple fact is that Republicans had no replacement plan for Obamacare in 2017, so some of their members refused to vote for a repeal of the law. They don’t have an alternate plan this time, either, yet they remain eager to strip health insurance away from tens of millions of Americans.
If the GOP wants to know why they can’t get anything accomplished, all they have to do is look in the mirror.
