GOP Joins Trump’s Attacks On Admiral Who Oversaw Raid That Killed Bin Laden

The official Twitter account for the Republican Party has now joined President Donald Trump in attacking retired Navy Admiral William McRaven, the man who planned and coordinated the SEAL team raid that led to the death of Al Qaeda terrorist leader Osama bin Laden in 2011.

Monday morning, this showed up on the @GOP Twitter page:

This comes just a day after Trump told Fox News host Chris Wallace:

“Wouldn’t it have been nice if we got Osama bin Laden a lot sooner than that, wouldn’t it have been nice? You know, living — think of this — living in Pakistan, beautifully in Pakistan, in what I guess they considered a nice mansion, I don’t know, I’ve seen nicer. But living in Pakistan right next to the military academy, everybody in Pakistan knew he was there.”

The president also called McRaven a “Hillary Clinton fan” during the Fox interview and weighed in yet again on Twitter Monday morning:

So this is what the GOP and Trump have come to? They claim to love and support the armed forces, but then they attack a true American hero like Admiral McRaven? That’s a direct slap in the face of anyone who has ever worn the uniform of the U.S. military. Apparently that support is conditional on what political party a person belongs to.

Social media responded quickly — and angrily — to the GOP:

If you thought today’s GOP couldn’t sink any lower, we just learned they’re only too happy to dig the hole as deep as their Dear Leader demands it.
