President Donald Trump is desperate for a celebration in his honor no matter what it costs or how divisive it is, which is why the wannabe dictator is now demanding tanks on the National Mall as part of his July 4th event on Thursday.
Apparently still seething over not getting his military parade because of the $92 million price tag that would have come with it, not to mention the damage that would have been caused to Washington DC streets by the rolling tanks, Trump is trying again to involve the massive military vehicles by demanding they be placed on the National Mall during his event.
Trump is already reportedly sealing off the Lincoln Memorial and at least part of the National Mall up to and including part of the reflecting pool of the Washington Monument for his private event, which will likely be reserved for his supporters.
His demand for tanks only makes it more clear that Trump is doing this for himself, not the country.
According to the Washington Post, National Park Service acting director P. Daniel Smith is still working out “how to satisfy President Trump’s request to station tanks or other armored military vehicles on the Mall for his planned July Fourth address to the nation. The ongoing negotiations over whether to use massive military hardware, such as Abrams tanks or Bradley fighting vehicles, as a prop for Trump’s ‘Salute to America’ is just one of many unfinished details when it comes to the celebration planned for Thursday.”
Again, Trump is a narcissist who doesn’t give a damn about America. He only cares about himself, and that means hijacking Independence Day as his own personal holiday. July 4th is supposed to be a day for all Americans to celebrate our freedom. It’s not supposed to be a partisan day used by the president to celebrate himself and push his propaganda.
And while the National Park Service apparently has no problem placing tanks weighing over 60 tons on the National Mall, which will likely cause much damage, they are restricting the Trump baby balloon from flying overhead even though protesters still intend to bring it.
Americans and the media should boycott Washington DC this year so that Trump’s July 4th crowd resembles his pathetic inauguration crowd. Because no president should be allowed to hijack July 4th for themselves, nor should they be able to get away with using the military as a prop. The whole notion is un-American.
