President Trump Not Wanted At Senator John McCain’s Future Memorial Service

The Bush family is not the only one that doesn’t want President Donald Trump to attend the funerals of their loved ones. Senator John McCain’s family also wants nothing to do with him.

As we all know, former First Lady Barbara Bush despised Trump. So, it’s understandable that she did not want him at her funeral. Instead, Trump pouted and went golfing in Florida as current First Lady Melania Trump attended the funeral and happily mingled with former President Barack Obama and his wife Michelle.

Trump’s relationship with Senator John McCain (R-Ariz.) is even worse. Trump infamously criticized McCain for being a prisoner of war during the Vietnam War, a war that Trump himself avoided by dodging the draft.

Trump has also repeatedly attacked him for blocking his effort to repeal the Affordable Care Act and continued attacking him even after the war hero and longtime public servant was diagnosed with brain cancer last year. Trump also despicably got the crowd at CPAC to boo McCain in February.

McCain, of course, is a fighter, so he naturally has fired back at Trump.

Recently, McCain criticized Trump for congratulating Russian President Vladimir Putin for winning a sham election and has slammed Trump’s attacks on Special Counsel Robert Mueller.

And as someone who experienced torture first-hand, he has also blasted Trump’s choice of torture advocate Gina Haspel as CIA Director.

In his recent memoir, McCain felt free to speak his mind about Trump in more depth.

“He seems uninterested in the moral character of world leaders and their regimes. The appearance of toughness or a reality show facsimile of toughness seems to matter more than any of our values. Flattery secures his friendship, criticism his enmity.”

McCain is still alive and fighting the cancer he has in every way he can with every fiber of his being. He’s not a quitter. He’s a fighter. That being said, in the event that he loses his battle, his family has informed the White House that Trump is definitely not invited to the future memorial service.

According to The New York Times:

His intimates have informed the White House that their current plan for his funeral is for Vice President Mike Pence to attend the service to be held in Washington’s National Cathedral but not President Trump, with whom Mr. McCain has had a rocky relationship.

“Rocky relationship” is quite an understatement. Trump has viciously attacked and insulted McCain repeatedly, even after Trump promised to stop doing so. It’s absolutely understandable why the McCain family would not want Trump in attendance.

Conservatives should be rallying around McCain and hailing him as a hero. But they would rather boo him instead to appease Trump, a man who refused to serve his country while McCain risked everything in defense of it and the freedoms we hold dear.

Trump will likely be furious about not being invited. After all, he won’t get to politicize McCain’s funeral and pretend that he never said anything bad about him.

But Trump only has himself to blame and it’s very likely there are more future funerals he won’t be invited to since he has attacked and alienated just about anyone and everyone in Washington. And when Trump’s own funeral comes to pass, his family won’t even have to bother banning anyone, because no one will care to attend anyway.
